Today I’m very excited to be sharing a new post series with you called “10 Questions With…” showcasing some of my favorite bloggers. I thought it would be a fun way of getting to know people in the blogging community and to share some thoughts about our creative processes (as everyone is very individual in their approach). And for anyone who is interested to learn more about blogging it will provide you with some insight into the nuts and bolts of it all.
There is so much information online about how to create and build a blog, what you should do and shouldn’t do. It can really get pretty confusing getting caught up in the “how to rules”. So I thought, why not put it to the people who are actually creating great content and who I love reading, and see what’s their spin on blogging.
So I’m thrilled to bring to you my first “10 Questions with…. Trishie from Under Lock and Key”
Although Trishie and I have never met, we’ve shared emails and helped each other with blogging questions. She has a wonderful blog www.underlockandkeyblog.com and been a great supporter of mine, which I’m very grateful for!
1. What was your motivation to start blogging?
I started blogging as a way to document the things I love and treasure, like an online diary. I wanted to keep a record about my life, dates with my now husband Stu, things we did, the food we cooked. I also posted lots pretty pictures that I found online. This were the days before Pinterest and my blog was a like my personal curated collection of inspirational photos and quotes.
2. Blogger or wordpress?
Blogger for me. Only because I haven’t been bothered to try anything else! It’s always worked well for me and easy to use so I see no point in changing.
3. What camera do you use?
All my photos are taken on my iPhone, and edited on an app called Snapseed.
4. What graphics programs do you use?
I don’t use any!
5. Favourite social media?
It used to be Facebook but these days’ it’s all about Instagram. I find it much easier to scroll through my feed on the phone than to sift through all the rubbish that’s on Facebook these days. I’ve enjoyed building friendships with other’s I have found on Instagram which I find just amazing.
6. How many hours do you spend a week on creating content?
Typically 2-3 hours per week. Mostly when my son is napping. I don’t know what I’ll do when he drops his nap!
7. Most regularly used resources.
I look for photography inspiration on pinterest and instagram. I love looking at how and why amazing photos look, well, amazing. Is it the props, the angle, its composition, the colours? I investigate and then I try to re-create in my own way.
8. Biggest blogging success?
My biggest blogging success is seeing my craft projects featured in Design in Bloom, a book recently published by Gingko Press. It is chock full of beautiful amazing botanical crafts by florists, designers and other creatives and I can’t believe my humble little ideas have been featured alongside them.
9. Biggest challenge?
Losing my blogging mojo. I think it happens to all bloggers. It’s great when the creative juices are flowing and the ideas and inspiration keep coming in but then there’s the opposite: when I feel so uninspired and lackluster and nothing seems to work. When that happens I take a break from blogging and take time to refresh my tired mind so I come back rejuvenated and full of ideas again. Blogging needs to be enjoyable – there’s no point otherwise.
10. A word of advice to anyone wanting to start a blog?
Be nice – it is so underrated.
“Make the effort to build a community, make blogging buddies,
respond to your readers and leave constructive comments on other blogs.”
Always ask for permission and credit accordingly when using other people’s photos and ideas. And most of all, enjoy the journey!
