When Nourished Life (one of the best places to shop for eco/ green/ non toxic/ organic health and beauty products) offered me the opportunity to try a Binchotan Charcoal Toothbrush, my first reaction was… “I’m sorry did I read that right?…. a charcoal toothbrush?” Because they are not normally two words I would put together and charcoal is not something I would generally associate with dental hygiene! But the curiosity got the better of me and I had to test one for myself.
After reading a little background information, I was sold before I even put the toothbush to the test. Because once I read the benefits of using a charcoal toothbrush, it made sense and I was wondering why I hadn’t herd of them or used one before.
A Binchotan Charcoal Toothbrush is made with high quality powder of activate binchotan charcoal. Which in a nutshell is a charcoal that has been heated or treated with oxygen to increase its ability to absorb.
This little toothbrush can deodorise, remove plaque, absorb toxins and the teeth staining compound tannin (hello tea, coffee and red wine!). Activated charcoal also contains natural antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties which will rid the mouth of bacteria which can lead to bad breath. It also has the added benefit of balancing the PH level of the mouth which will reduce the growth of cavity forming bacteria.
For such a little brush it has some seriously BIG health benefits.
On the actually brushing side, it was very comfortable to use and I felt it gave a really great clean. It has a pretty basic shape and design (compared to some of the supermarket brands which have contoured bristles) but this is in no way reflective of its brushing performance. I normally use an electric toothbrush and this was as good if not better than an electric toothbrush. And I actually really loved that it was a simple black and white design- who knew a toothbrush could look so chic!
I for one highly recommend ditching your current toothbrush and going for binochotan charcoal toothbrush that will do soooo much more for you than just keep your teeth clean!
